Age isn’t the whole story
A well-built laptop that’s a few years old with a worn battery or a dying hard drive is often more worth repairing than a newer, budget model with a failing motherboard.
Usually worth repairing
- Battery replacement on an otherwise solid laptop
- Storage upgrade to fix a slow, aging machine
- Screen or keyboard replacement on a laptop you rely on daily
Usually worth replacing
When the cost of repair starts approaching the cost of a comparable new machine, or when a laptop has had several unrelated failures in a short time, replacing tends to make more sense.
